Hurricane Victor of the Battle of Britain eBook Leo McKinstry

In the summer of 1940 the fate of Europe hung in the balance. Victory in the forthcoming air battle would mean national survival; defeat would establish German tyranny.
The Luftwaffe greatly outnumbered the RAF, but during the Battle of Britain it was the RAF that emerged triumphant, thanks to two key fighter planes, the Spitfire and the Hurricane. The Hurricane made up over half of Fighter Command's front-line strength, and its revolutionary design transformed the RAF's capabilities.
Leo McKinstry tells the story of the remarkable plane from its designers to the first-hand testimonies of those brave pilots who flew it; he takes in the full military and political background but always keeps the human stories to the fore - to restore the Hawker Hurricane to its rightful place in history.
Hurricane Victor of the Battle of Britain eBook Leo McKinstry
Comprehensive, super sturdy--just like the aircraft--tome. Solid and, oh so thorough! If you have questions after reading this wonderful history of the "Hurri" you missed something on your way through the book. Leo McKinstry does the same in his work on the Spitfire. Great research, and engrossing writing!Thank you, Mr. McKinstry!

Hurricane Victor of the Battle of Britain eBook Leo McKinstry Reviews
Up front I'm admitting I have read a number of Leo McKinstry's books and I enjoy his literary style. On top of this though, the author provides an in-depth and unbiased history of the type at hand. Not only covering the type in the air, but production issues and triumphs, test-pilot background and some comparison with the obvious rival of the time, the Spitfire.
A very enjoyable read.
Leo McKinstry's history of the development and operational life of the Hurricane tells a fascinating industrial story, as well as paying tribute to the heroism of the pilots who flew it in action. It balances very well his history of the Spitfire and shares that book's searching analysis of the industrial and military forces that led to the creation of this iconic aircraft.
Loved learning about the Hurricane's design evolution and operational history. The book was every bit as good as Lancaster by the same author.
Great history of a unique aero plane, it's role in WW2 and it's relativity compared with the Spitfire. You need to read the trilogy with Spitfire and Lancaster to get true appreciation
Very good "popular" history of the Hurricane. The chapter on the Hurricane in France is very good. However does push the old saw about the greater load that the Hurricane carried in the Battle of Britain, even though current analysis by Sarkar and other call this into question. Overall an enjoyable read but not a detailed operational history. If you're a Hurricane fan, get it.
I greatly enjoyed this book. Mr. McKinstry did a fantastic job in putting this book together. Every page was full of information, providing excerpts from pilots, commanders. Making it feel like you were in the plane with the pilots that flew them. Information on the contribution women had in the war effort, especially the engineers.
I read Spitfire and greatly enjoyed it. As a result I have purchased Lancaster - can't wait to start reading it.
Thank-you for such great books.
Just like McKinistry's "Spitfire" this was thorough research od both development and operational history.
